Status Bar

Active status bar - the panels present information about Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Overwrite modes status and can change every of this mode by double click. Double Click on position panel will call “Go to Line” dialog. Double Click on the panel with document name will copy it to the clipboard.

Most of the indicators on status bar are active.

HippoEDIT has a lot of pre-configured status bar indicators that shows you additional information about the document, settings or your current context.

Most indicators are active. This means, you can get some additional functionality when clicking on it, as switching of the mode indicated on the indicator or getting a context menu with more options. For example, you can change the syntax of the current document, encoding, line-break style, call Go to Line dialog, style of current char display and text selection mode.

By default, not all indicators are shown. If you want to show additional indicators or hide some - use status bar context menu → right-click on the status bar to get a context menu with a list of indicators and uncheck that you do not need.

Following indicators are available:

• Syntax - shows current syntax under the cursor position (can be different from main syntax of the document). Clicking on the indicator, calls syntax selection menu, where you can change main syntax of the document in fast way.
• Encoding - current encoding (code page) of the document. Clicking on the indicator calls encoding selection menu, where you can change document encoding. Last used encodings moved to top of the list. Changing of the encoding for modified document can lead to data loss.
• Line Endings - displays current document line ending mode. Can be: Windows (CR+LF), Unix (LF), Mac (CR), EBCDIC/IBM (NEL) or ACORN BBC (LF+CR). If document contains mixed line ending styles, indicator shows Mixed. Clicking on indicator calls context menu, where you can change document line ending style.
• Total Lines - shows current line count
• File Size - shows current file size (saved). Click on indicator calls File Properties.
• File Time - time of last file modification (saved). Click on indicator calls File Properties.
• File Folder - folder in which current file located. Click calls Windows Explorer for Current Directory.
• Position - shows current cursor position as line + column. If line contains tabs, also character position is added (it is then different from column position). Clicking on indicator calls Go To Dialog.
• Absolute position - by default hidden. Help to track absolute text length when you prepare article of specific length.
• Current Character - shows code of current character (right to caret position). Clicking on indicator switch decimal and HEX display.
• Indent size - shows you determined or preselected indent size for this document. You can select indent size from default values and change properties for Auto-detection of indent size and Auto-detect of tab usage in the document.
• Tab Size - shows current tab size selected for document. Can be different from indent size. By clicking on indicator you get context menu where you can change tab size for specific document (using preselected or explicit values). If document tab size is not set, tab size of the document syntax is used.
• Modified - shows dirty state of the document. If * shown - document is modified.
• Read-Only - read only state of the file or document. Click toggles state.
• Selection Mode - shows current selection mode. Clicking on indicator calls context menu, where you can change selection mode in fast way.
• Scaling - shows current scaling factor for document. By clicking you get access to context menu with predefined scale factors, can select Fit to Page or Fit to Document mode. Or, if nothing fit your needs, you can enter exact scale factor for document.
• CAP - Caps Lock state. Clicking on indicator, switches Caps Lock state.
• NUM - Num Lock state. Clicking on indicator, switches Num Lock state.
• OVR - Overwrite state (Ins). Clicking on indicator, switches Overwrite state.
• SCRL - Scroll Lock state. Clicking on indicator, switches Scroll Lock state.
